What style of massage do you do?
I think the best way of answering this is (at risk of sounding annoying) with a return question. Do you already have a situation or specific issue in mind that you’re thinking you might need help with? Let’s chat.
In terms of how I work, my approach is broadly the same whatever the issue that you wish to work with. I work in a focused and precise manner, targeting 1 or 2 problem areas only on the body in each appointment.
I encourage active engagement and I may ask you questions or direct you with specific instructions as we delve deeper into the treatment.
I would describe my bodywork treatments as a 3-way conversation between you, me, and your body. The best conversations are ones where all parties are attentive, inquisitive, and informative. Oh yes, your body does indeed speak. Don’t worry, I’ll facilitate the conversation and make sure everyone gets a say and arrives at a great understanding of each other.
What is deep bodywork? Do you do deep tissue massage?
Deep bodywork seeks to address any musculoskeletal issues you might have using a focused, precise, and targeted approach. It is a remedial style of treatment that aims to
- reduce pain
- improve movement
- get you feeling better in the shortest amount of time
This focused and precise way of treatment also seeks to give you the most long-lasting effects after your appointment. Or to put it another way, would you rather I go all round the Wrekin or efficiently get to the point?
It’s also a common misconception to interchangeably use deep tissue with hard pressure.
What issues can you help with?
I see a wide range of clients. Some are very fit and active, from semi-pro athletes to weekend warriors to keen gym bunnies and marathon runners, who need someone to support them and help keep them moving as they achieve their fitness goals. In a first appointment with such clients, we’d be looking quite thoroughly through your medical history, your current musculoskeletal challenges, and identifying any particular fitness goals that you wish to achieve.
Some clients feel massage really helps with health challenges they may be working with. I’ve seen clients who suffer from depression, eczema, psoriasis, thyroid conditions, autoimmune disorders, stroke, ME, fibromyalgia, cardiovascular problems.
And others just feel that it’s really important to them to have a fixed commitment to times when they simply stop and allow themselves a period of facilitated rest and reflection.
In all cases we would always have a good chat about your goals and what you most need from your appointment that day.
I would also always offer recommendations and referrals to other trusted complementary therapists if I feel that you could benefit from supplementary expertise. These might include acupuncturists, osteopaths, physiotherapists, Alexander technique, yoga, Pilates, counsellors, naturopaths, etc.
How often should I book to see you? How many appointments should I have?
Well…. in an ideal world, every 2-3 days. But look, let’s get real – what I normally tell people is, you need to find the right balance that works for you between time (yours and mine), what you can afford, and the purpose of your appointments.
If you’re trying to address a specific issue, then my strong recommendation is that you commit to a short series of weekly or fortnightly appointments. What I see time and time again is that a short, sharp commitment results in the most effective treatment outcomes, and ultimately delivers the most value for money.
We would always measure progress together and assess the number and frequency of appointments that you would need thereafter.
Can you do home visits?
I’m so very sorry but I’m afraid I don’t offer home visits. However, you’re still welcome to get in touch for my recommendations if you’re struggling to find someone suitable.
